Marie-Antoinette Clothing

FRAGMENT OF mARIE aNTOINETTE4S DRESS

On auction today there was this…

a textile fragment which was a piece of Marie-Antoinette's clothing.

Seriously why does this sort of thing grab my attention?

The trip it takes me on…

First thought: OMG I want it.

Second thought: Yeah at 1200 Euros beginning bid

I do not think that is going to be a realistic option.

Third thought: Dang to think most likely someone is going to bid 5000 euros and take it home.

Fourth thought: 5000 euros can feed a lot of people or at least this should go to a museum.

and on and on my mind wanders from wanting, to reasoning, to listening, to wondering …

to settle on being happy that I am able to see these things.

What object/thing do you take a fancy to regardless if it is reasonable?

  1. I look at apartments in Paris all the time. I try to stay under $1,000,000.00

  2. When I am in an antique shop I love seeing the chairs, but how many chairs do I need? Ha! So I just take their pictures.

  3. Ana Maria

Antique linens. I buy the ones with monograms of all my family and friends.

  4. That is beautiful. I would love to see a collection of her clothes.

  5. How about a poetry stick? What are the words in French and does it have a different name?

  6. Ha! In between “I want this” and “5000 euros can feed a lot of people”, I add “this would buy me 2-3 round trip tickets to Europe. Ah, it is all that teaching and Catholic guilt that we feel this way, Corey. But it DOES save us beaucoup d’argent!

  7. Teddee Grace

I’m not sure, knowing her head was sliced off, whether she was wearing the garment this came from at the time, that I’d want the thing around.

  8. One of Henry VIII’s lesser castles is for sale now, in England, for 15 million pounds. That could be fun!

  9. large sailboats, love the Annapolis Sailboat Show in October, and, yes, as an earlier comment mentioned . . . an apartment in Paris with a view of the Iron lady 🙂
