Ever Changing Light

Five hours drive

through magnificent countryside

to an area I had never seen

Aix les Bain.

We went for one night

while there we walked by the lake

Yann told me that

during WWII a German plane crashed into it

two people drown and the other two were rescued.
Germany in turn released four French prisoners.

Random conversation.

We came to attend Yann’s cousin’s funeral

who died of covid… healthy, no underline conditions, loved enormously, a generous figure in the community.

Tragic.

He had his first vaccine, though a few days later he came down with covid. His wife went everyday for two months to the hospital  that was an hour and a half of an hour away to see her beloved.

Hours in a car gave plenty of room

for reflection…  the faith she mustered to endure and let go.

Returning home…

A tractor in the distance works up the ground.

My thoughts held my brother, my cousins Julie and Jeanne, my friend Cynthia who died earlier this year, my Aunt Louie…

and the baby girl who Chelsea is carrying.

Life

this road

with ever changing landscape and play of light

two birds fly by

the sound of the engine like a heart beat

and Yann sitting by my side.

Adieu Eric

As I was working with genealogy today, I noticed how many people from the same family extended family had died, how many elders we’re missing. I’ll cherish news of Chelsea’s expected little girl, too, as so many of your readers do in our current world. My condolences to you and all who loved Yann’s cousin.

  4. My condolences to you both for the loss of Yann’s cousin and sending prayer of support for all you are enduring during this year.

  8. The bittersweet of life —- loss and sorrow —and the joyful expectation of new life., a baby girl. To hold both in one’s heart is not an easy thing. Your thoughtful reflection is such a gift, Corey. Thank you!

Very sorry for your loss Yann, such a tragic scenario, Covid has caused a lot of great distress…but we are starting hopefully to get through it. I am also sad to read of the other losses and the grief you have gone through is hard to grasp, the best news is always a new life and Chelsea will be bringing you such joy before long…
    All the best
    Jennifer

  14. Yann and family – I am so sorry for your loss. This pandemic has ripped holes in so many families who also share your loss. I hope we have learned some political and public health lessons to take into the future. Much sympathy and keep haring the stories of him.

Condolences on your loss Yann. Heartbreaking to hear of the loss in families. I have heard of husband and wife entering the hospital together with CV but only the wife survived, husband did not. The prayer requests when a whole family came down with CV, luckily they all survived but it was serious touch and go for over a month. Then a ray of hope, reading that a little girl will be born into a loving family.

  16. Life has so many twist and turns.
It is like a roller coaster at times.
My sympathy goes out to each of you
for the losses experienced this past year.
Joy for the little girl that will be here soon.
