Driving from Marseille

to

the Normandy coastline

to see Yann’s family

16 hours in a car with anyone is a proof of love, right?

We are taking the backroads…

I want to stop every two inches to take a photo.

But that hasn’t happened – we are not driving straight through

That was the compromise!

So many roads!

so many charming villages!

so many chateaux!

so many « oh look at that’ »

so many naps.

more to come …

  1. Have a wonderful time.
    Enjoy

  2. We visited Normandy the last time we were in France. It was such a beautiful part of the country. The WWII beaches and the history all around us were sobering. We got some apple jam at an orchard and I have never tasted anything so good in my life! It had been cooked until the sugars caramelized. Sublime. Happy travels 🙂

  3. Happy travels!
    Yes, chateaus!
    I love seeing them.

    sounds fantastic, enjoy!

  5. Oh, I wish I was in the car with you, which route are you taking? We are not returning to France this year. The thought of even getting on plane at the moment is too scary for me. Miss France so much….sigh.

  6. Love Normandy❤️‍🔥
Spent so many years in St. Malo (with the ferry going to Jersey or Guersney), Deauville, Mont St. Michel.
Lodging in Avranches were there still is Patton’s tank in a lovely chambre d’hote near by! 😍
I saw too so many American and British WW2 cemetery along the way; all the time I mentally prayed and thanked them for the freedom we were living in; I say were because at present we are not so free due to Covid (even though we are still free in our spirit and mind as nobody can take it away from us)!
Let’s hope that those days will soon be back again so to keep honor those resting soldiers memory for having fought for it! 😪

  7. Beautiful!

  8. Beautiful Photos! Enjoy your drive.
Thank you for sharing so much of France’s beauty for those of us unable to get back due to Covid. Appreciate your blog so much!!

Oh what a wonderful road trip. I have forgotten where they live, if i ever knew. Normandy holds a special place in my heart. My Daddy landed there 6-6-44 at h hour 30 minutes. One of his comments about the journey (yes he survived) was the appreciation demonstrated by the French people. We enjoyed the 40th and 50th anniversary celebrations together and I celebrated the 60th in his honor. Safe travels can’t wait for the pics!

  10. Send more photos of you trip! Love tagging along. xo

It used to take me eight hours to drive from Chicago to the family farm in northwest Missouri and that was a haul. Sixteen hours straight through? That sounds like something my Dad would have done. Glad you are not doing it…and your drive is much more picturesque than that drive from Chicago to the farm on I-80.

  12. Sounds beautiful, but 16 hours is a long time. Don’t forget to look for side by side fixer upper chateaux!

  13. Now that’s a slow drive! Are you taking many, MANY backroads? Sixteen hours in the carvwould take me 1000 miles from Indiana to my family in Maine. We would love to be your backseat drivers. Jim would be in Heaven to talk with Yann that long.
