Yann and I have been playing after dinner
it takes less than an hour for one of us to win.
We are tied.
Luck still has plenty to do with it.
When is the last time you played a board game?
This summer I played many hours of a game called ‘Betrayal at House on the Hill’ with my son and his friend. They needed a 3rd person. Oy, it was all so complicated and I couldn’t even read the clue cards because the type was so small. I did my best but I was so confused. Monopoly would be more fun for me I think.
Scrabble four years ago. My family and friends aren’t that into board games.
Candyland with my grandchildren about four months ago. The 1960s version I played in childhood had more visual appeal. : )
Monopoly, about a year ago, with our friend, Sam, age 10. He bought up the railroads and finished me off – bit by bit.
That and I kept going to jail!
Thankfully it was in English. I wonder what a German language Monopoly board would look like.; they have long street names!
You finish Monopoly in an hour? You must be a real estate genius. Haven’t actually played it, other than on the computer, in over fifty years. Those games when I was a kid, usually ended with one person storming off in a snit.
I am very lucky to live close to grandkids and adult kids who love to play games. We get together about once a month to play ‘Rummikub’, ‘Secret Hitler’ (essentially trying to find out who are liberals and who is the fascists, and Hitler, and get rid of him asap), and or ‘Catan’. When it’s just the littles we play ‘Zombie Dice'(not a board game but quick and fun), ‘Tsuro of the Seas’, or ‘Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza'(card game).
On a ride home, one of my grandsons (11 at the time) made up a board game, shared it with his cousin via zoom, and for the past two years they have both played it and revised it over and over again. It has a board that can be switched around like puzzle pieces, and challenges during the play. Some things just didn’t make sense and have been scrapped completely while other things have developed into really cool options and “side hustles”. They asked me to get involved (for board design mainly, but also to help with rules)so we are currently “in development”(lol) trying to get to the final version. It’s been tricky, but so fun to watch the kids figure out what makes sense and what doesn’t, and how the play on the board works and progresses. All this while living in 3 different cities! I think they have a great idea on their hands and hopefully we can get to a finalized version soon!
I have not played a board game in a long time, but your post brought back a funny family story about my Dad and Monopoly. He was a FIERCE competitor and once yelled “Oh you Featherhead!” at my 16 year old sister because she refused to sell him some important property. (she won, btw) and he was banned from playing Monopoly from then on. This story is inevitably brought up at every family gathering.
Monopoly is my very favourite and I always win!! Love board games and cards. Pictionary is a lot of fun and of course Scrabble XX
