Leon a piece of his Story

In 1914 Yann’s great uncle went to war.
He was 17 years old.
His name was Leon C.

Wee moments old at his baptism with water of grace poured, surrounded by family a great joy wrapped him.

His Godparents gave him a traditional gift: a silver soup spoon and fork inscribed with his monogram L.C.
As a symbol of nourishment for his spiritual and physical body.

Leon died during WWI.

Yann’s mother knowing I appreciate old things gave me Leon’s baptismal gift this Christmas.

Holding them I look around our home the stories hidden in these objects, some known most of them not at all

though they are here knowing and welcoming Leon’s story amongst them. Layers of lives like pages sharing a story where our sentences add to the dialogue.

  2. Parting with objects that belonged to a deceased child is incredibly difficult. How Leon’s mother must have wept as she held them in the hands that once held her beloved son! The gift you received is so precious and it is obvious that you are aware of the treasure she entrusted to you. What a lovely post.
    Blessings at Christmas! -mary

These silver pieces are gorgeous. I also have a great uncle who was killed in WWI. His grandparents had moved to the United States from the Alsace and, ironically, he was killed just a short distance from where his grandparents had lived before moving.

What a family treasure. Holding that silver in your hands, one is reminded of the sacrifice made by this young man and his entire family.
Thinking of you & your family in this Christmas season.
