Shared Stories: Geneen Cook

After many years of penning this blog, I have come to know many of you and if you have been following me and reading the comments you probably know each other too.
During Christmas, many of you shared your home’s Christmas decor which gave us another glimpse of you. I enjoyed that so much that I want to continue putting forth ways for us to connect. If you have a personal story that you would want to share please send it to me at

Shared Stories number 10

Geneen Cook

I asked my friend Hannah. Who just happens to be the wise age of 93.

What she was thinking about .

She had an old photo album opened. Inside were pictures of a guy named Seth.

She has loved Seth all of these years.

They met in grade school. Started dating in high school. Seth and Hannah became a couple.

After High school they were engaged. A wedding was planned.

Then..one day…he just stopped talking to her.

Never gave her a reason.

She went to his parents.

They didn't want to get involved.

He married someone else.

Betty.

Betty was a good friend of Hannah's.

He simply never talked to her again…

She was looking thru photos and looked at me and said,

"I'm thinking about unaswered whys"…

Oh my goodness. What a cliff hanger. But—real life!

  2. Yes, we need to know more:
Did Hanna and Betty continue to be friends?
How did Betty feel about her friend’s sorry?
Did their paths cross as in a small town?
How did the war impact their lives?
When did Hanna see Seth’s parents again?
How did Hanna move on; who did she marry?
Do ask Hanna to elaborate; I’m sure we will all be thinking of various versions.
    Bonne journée à tous,
    Ella

  4. The pain Hanna has lived with all these years. It would be nice to know if she lived a good life despite what happened to her.

  5. it is so relatable- for me- the “whys” unknown-a person might believe a bullet spared- what is meant to be will be but still… it does not make it easier was the found a part of the steal… life is hard and mysterious and full of so many unanswered questions ….

  6. Oh please don’t leave us hanging with so many questions. Tell us more about your friend and her life!

  7. And now she’s 94 and still wondering? For her, I wish she’d found out the answer so many years ago!!! I have the same questions as Ella. This would be a good first chapter of a book. It would keep us reading to find out all the answers. (Similarly, I keep wondering about something that happened forty years ago. Wish I’d resolved it then because I’m tired of it popping up in my mind.)

  8. This broke my heart…

  9. So sad! My heart breaks at unanswered questions.
