Nothing Lost in Translation

Every morning my mother spoils us by making breakfast. Where I would put a box of cereal, yogurts and fruit; my mother goes further by making homemade pancakes, waffles, or French toast from eggs from her chickens.

The first morning in Willows my mother asked Gabriel if he wanted a pancake?

 »Yes, I want a crepe. »

As my mother has hearing loss she asked Gabriel,

 »You want a cup? »

Gabriel pronounce very slowly,

« A   c r e p e. »

my mother nods,

 »A cup. »

 » C   R   E   P   E » again Gabriel says crepe slowly.

«What kind of cup do you want? » my mother asks.

Gabriel understands everything in English though at this point he speaks far more French than English he looked at my mother with confusion. Lacking the vocabulary to explain he simply repeated the word,

 » Crêpe. »

My mother smiles, « Oh is that how you say pancake in French? Cup. Okay, one cup for Gabriel. »

Everyone is happy as nothing was lost in translation.
