Daisy the Miracle

Daisy the Miracle

Those of you who have followed me will remember Daisy.

My Godchild Daisy, the miracle child. When she was born (2008) she wasn't expected to live.

I was with her parents the day she was unhooked from life support.

A miracle happened, Daisy bloomed into full life.

We have our own miracle child in our family: my granddaughter who was not expected to live past two and never expected to sit up or crawl, much less walk or talk. She’s done all of that. She had her 18th birthday this month. She had cochlear implants when a preschooler and has been mainstreamed since kindergarten. She mostly makes A’s although higher level mathematics is a challenge for her. She’s delightful, kind, artistic, and beautiful, too. She definitely knows her own mind, but has the sweetest way of announcing her intentions to do exactly what she wants to do. She has plans for herself. I know from loving her how precious each moment with Daisy must be, how she’s taught you a different way of loving, a more fragile, delicate, and yet fierce way.
