In the face of suffering, cruelty, and death that is happening in Israel and Palestine,
I search for wisdom, faith in unconditional love, and forgiveness, the pillars I grew up knowing and believing.
I acknowledge that my life does not compare to the immense pain and brutality we witness in the media. However, I am bewildered by the belief that violence, hatred, and death are acted upon to bring peace, clarity, hope, or life.
Instead, it breeds more anger, frustration, and hatred.
Is the goal obliteration?
I refuse to think it is humanly possible to feel that hatred and evilness.
How much pain has endured in their lives, living in their cells over hundreds of years to act in such a way? How does evil take over some, and how do others remain faithful despite what they have endured?
In this endless cycle, I want to believe in the greater prevalence of innocence. How can taking the lives of children and families ever lead to resolution? In a conflict where both sides have felt immeasurable pain, finding forgiveness and peace seems impossible, given the path of destruction happening.
The actions of a few have inflicted devastation on the many, and the end remains elusive.
As a dear friend aptly said, "compassion" hardly captures what is needed. The journey towards healing this profound wound is beyond scope; where does it begin? In our collective humanity? Who will hold a light to follow out of this darkness?
