Elena, Sacha's girlfriend, shared with me an encounter that she had recently. While walking from the metro, a man was ahead of her, pulling a portable shopping cart …
As a man pulled his portable shopping cart full of flowers up the stairs, the loud clangs of the metal frame were jarring to the ears, echoing through the metro station with a sharp intensity. The petals bounced back and forth, seemingly applauding their existence. Elena walked past the man, who then apologized for the noise he was making. With her kind smile, she replied,
"Flowers never make noise."
The man stopped, caught off guard by Elena's unexpected response. His face softened as he explained that his mother had recently passed away, and as she adored flowers, he had bought a bunch to honor her memory. The man's hidden emotion struck Elena. As a gesture of gratitude for Elena's kindness, the man plucked a flower from his cart and handed it to her.
May we, too, see the beauty that can be found amidst the noise of everyday life.
