Living life on a pendulum signifies the three distinct points – one at each far end, and the middle point. Embracing life at the far ends of the pendulum creates a sense of black and white thinking, where things are viewed in extremes and absolutes. It’s a perspective that lacks nuances and differences. Being in the middle of the pendulum embraces the grey areas that exist between the two.
People’s beliefs and attitudes tend to swing like a pendulum, swaying between contrasting viewpoints depending on the subject. At one end, people may have rigid and inflexible perspectives, unable to accept the differing opinions. This mindset can lead to an inability to find common ground with others.
On the opposite end, some people chose a passive voice, avoiding strong opinions and are reluctant to get involve with certain issues. While this may seem like an attempt to avoid conflict, it can also result in a failure to effect meaningful change.
Living at the polar opposites of the pendulum can lead to a narrow worldview and hinder acceptance of others. It is the space in the middle, of the pendulum, that seeks for a more balanced and nuanced perspective. The middle ground encourages empathy, and understanding.
The analogy of the pendulum is a simple lesson about balance and open-mindedness. It reminds us to navigate away from the extremes, to seek the middle ground where understanding and empathy take hold.
My town voted 51 percent for Le Pen which is extreme right.
