We Must

Poem by Nikita Gill

We must too.

The world feels tilted, for me this election stirs fear rather than promise.

My mind is restless-

But, there is something resilient in the spirit—a hope that refuses to be extinguished.

A voice that begs within, a whisper: “Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the future I fear won’t be the one that comes to pass. Maybe, just maybe, the outcome will defy expectations.”

A prayer it becomes.

A needed hope in the severe face of doubt.

Hope is not the absence of doubt, but the courage to hold on to something more-

Even when we can’t see the way forward, we must see change often comes from the places we least expect, from voices that had been silenced, from moments that seemed too small to matter.

  1. I usually am involved in what’s happening in the world and read the news consistently but I cannot go through this craziness again. He was almost gone and now he’s back. I can’t watch it. I hope there are younger others who will step in and push back.

  2. I fear it will be quite a rebuilding process after sane leaders have to sit on the sidelines for the next four years. We know who this guy is, yet more than half of my fellow US citizens have no problem with that.

  3. I am holding on to what Kamala said that in the darkness we must focus on the stars. The first star I see today is the governor of California setting legal blocks in place to keep Trump from doing harm in his state. I hope other governor’s step forward to do the same. As much stress and anger I have, I am going to try to notice the stars.

The stars are shining brightly today in Colorado as well. We are grateful that our Canadian son and his family reside in a state that is governed with love, kndness and care.

  4. Sad, angry, confused as to how we got here. Fearful.
    Seeking HOPE.

  5. All I can do is pray. Many people think this is not doing anything. But, I have seen impossible situations changed through prayer many times, including impossible political situations. I’m a 73 year-old woman living in a nursing home, so I might not be able to be on the front lines in the battle against fascism, but I definitely am devoted to prayer and also to being outspoken as possible, online and among my peers, about the wrongness of what is happening, and figuring out what to do about it. I hope every decent human being can find a solid rock to stand on in the fight which may come. May God bless you, Corey and all.

  6. I can’t believe that we allowed this to happen again. I am fearful of what lies ahead. Did the past not have any impact on us? We can only pray and stand together and realize that good will prevail over evil.
    Stay strong

I am afraid on so many levels. My ethnicity being my main concern. I grew up never feeling the sting of prejudice in a small Ohio town where we enjoyed our church , school , work, apple pie and baseball. Our continued prayers and being good neighbors to one another will always prevail. Blessings

  8. I know that we are of many faiths, but the substance of the letter that my Pastor sent on election day has helped ground me, may you find parts of it that resonate with you.

    A Note from the Pastor
Today our nation holds a national election. We Lutherans believe we are called to be actively engaged in civic society. Our faith informs our participation. However, we do not believe we are called to coerce society to our faith. We believe good government is one of the gifts of God. Our primary concerns are caring for the neighbor, caring for the creation, upholding the justice and dignity of all people, and seeking peace in all places.

As we vote and elect leaders this day, I urge you to also lift up prayers. Pray for all those seeking office–both the winners and the losers. Pray for wisdom and guidance for those elected to serve. Pray for their families. Pray for peace, mutual understanding, and good willing among all of the country’s residents. Pray for the vulnerable, the poor, the forgotten, the abused, and the struggling. Pray that God will give each of us the courage to live what we believe–to speak and not be silent, to act and not to hide in cowardice. Pray for the love and peace found only in Jesus Christ to fill all our hearts today and always.

  9. The verse that keeps coming to my mind is, “Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 124:8
