The Flower Child

“As soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was going to happen.“ Winnie the Pooh

‘Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.’ – Fred Rogers

Olivia is the one who loves to dress up, dance, and sing songs to herself. A sugar cube of sweetness, I asked her if she was a dolly and her eyes twinkled asking me to help her dress up and to dance.

Today, she said her friend wore a headband to school—though she didn’t know the word for it, so she described it as a ribbon with flowers. I suggested a big bow. We headed to my studio (a visual word for creativity as mine is a mess,) where I found a ribbon and some misshaped fake flowers. But, my first attempt was not to her liking, she threw a little fit, (how dare I misunderstand!) one flower wasn’t enough!
“Oh oh oh I see you want a bouquet!”

And just like that, a little party began.
I pray this never ends ❤️

  1. Thank you for quoting Fred Rogers. He was an absolute treasure, especially here in SW PA, where people let him live like a regular person while he accomplished amazing feats of understanding. He died far too soon.

Olivia is absolutely enchanting!! How wonderful that you get to participate in her magic each day—-oh, the joy!!

  3. Such joy to be able to bring a child’s wish to fruition. Children are such a delight – the sheer joy of a simple thing like a flower headband and that smile – says it all.

  4. Absolutely, stunningly, perfect. What a great joy you made for her., All made with love.
