The Soft Sigh

When Olivia saw the princess with her long lavender-colored hair, a spark of admiration was lite. Olivia has dreamed of long hair for as long as she could talk. The desire in her little heart turned into a soft sigh and, before long, tiny tears of longing flowed.

When we long for something that feels unobtainable or will take a long time to achieve, there will be moments of sadness and desperation. During these times, it’s important to surround ourselves with things that bring hope, resilience, encouragement, and grace to carry on. Our desires may not always be tied to life-changing events or dramatic shifts in the world around us, but we must remain steadfast and not be caught off guard by the tidal waves of emotion or circumstance.

Be the helping hand, the open heart, the gentle word, and the kindness without measure. Certainly, this will make for a better world.

As for Olivia, it’s just a matter of time. She no longer believes that eating vegetables will make her hair grow long.

Seeing her tenderly sad reminded me that a child’s world of emotion and desire is as important to listen to, and we must guide them. By doing so, we equip them with the tools they need to face the bigger challenges in the future and help them see things through.

  2. Don’t cry, Olivia, your day will come. <3

  3. I do remember my mother buying my sister a couple inexpensive wigs when she was little. It was the 1960s and one was styled as a beehive do. Of course that was the one she loved.

Dear sweetheart. I’m sure that was not that young lady’s real hair and I hope someone pointed that out to Oliva…and I’d be tempted to get her a little costume wig to play dress-up in as well.

  7. Beautiful photo series and story. ❤️

  8. Corey, that touched me very deeply…

As far as I can tell, none of the Amaros are lacking for fabulous tresses (including Yann). My niece as a toddler had the most fabulous red hair that framed her face, as does Olivia’s. Rachel’s hair eventually grew long and beautiful of course. My sister, Heather, used to wear a tee shirt (the neck around her head, the rest trailing down her back) dreaming of future locks. Maybe there’s a place Olivia could pick out a wig she’d like to wear during playtimes . . .

    1. Olivia does have two wigs and she wears them often! But I love your sister’s idea about the T-shirt. I am so doing that tonight when she comes home.
