Renovation in Italy

Laurie, who bought an house in the Italian village where her Grandparents lived, and I have been on an incredible journey renovating the property. With a skilled team of carpenters, masons, painters, plumbers, and electricians, we’ve turned the space into a home.

We’ve spent time exploring antique shops, searching through junk piles, and basements to find pieces that would bring an old time Italian feel to the renovation. Along the way, we’ve met talented people, learned from their expertise, and uncovered all sorts of pieces- hinges, tiles, wooden planks, tables…

The small hillside village remains intact, its charm enduring through the generations. The people who live here have called it home for years, and the village is alive, morning coffees on the square, church bells, bakers… The circle of friendship widens as we connect more and more with Laurie’s cousins and the locals—the carpenters, marble cutters, painters, translators, and neighbors who offer us oranges to make marmalade, and bring warmth to the place. The bakers, who are open all day long.

Living in a village like this is like being part of a close-knit family, where everyone knows everyone, and everyone is ready to lend a hand. On Sundays, the town dresses its best, gathering after mass ( whether they go to it or not) for a coffee in the square and then to the market to buy fresh for the week. It’s like living in a picture book with real characters.
